Davos Off Piste Mountain Safety Course

This course aims to provide riders with the necessary skills to safely ride off piste in search of fresh powder. In particular, you will learn how to judge and safely test the safety of snow pack learning to identify layers in the snow according to past and present environmental conditions such as wind and temperature.  Most importantly you will master the techniques used in avalanche burial situations to rescue avalanche victims using modern transceivers, probes, shovels and other survival equipment.

Basic map reading skills will also be taught and used to access a variety of off piste terrain in safety. The opportunity to safely make descents will be reviewed daily and we’ll never rule out building a kicker somewhere as well!!

As qualified European mountain safety leaders we regularly use the SLF.CH site to make detailed decisions about the current conditions of the snow. It’s a fantastic tool and should be used as regularly as possible when planing any off-piste adventures. Furthermore, it’s a great weather forecast site as well with up to the minute reports of current conditions around Davos and the rest of Switzerland
